Ellen Tauscher on nuclear arms deal with Russia

Under Secretary of State for Arms and International Security Ellen Tauscher discussed a nuclear arms agreement with Russia at a news conference in Paris last week. She wore brick red:

Notice the placement of her brooch, high on the shoulder towards the outside. By keeping the size small and the placement off the lapel, it doesn't interfere with her bold necklace. I could do without the crooked name tag, but we'll live with it.

Her hair is well-styled, but her highlights are a bit too dramatic. She would do better with more brown and less honey blond mixed in.

Barbara Boxer on Health Care

Barbara Boxer spoke about health care on the Senate floor last week. She wore a red jacket:

Tomato red is a good color for the senator. But the wide collar of this jacket combined with a turtleneck sweater makes for a heavy look - again, a bit like outerwear.

What I really want to talk about is her hairstyle. The shape of this cut works well for her face, although she could probably go with even a bit more length and do well. My concern is the color. The highlights have so much contrast that they've become distracting. The senator should consider brown her friend here. Darker hair and brighter makeup would actually look younger, I think.

Carly Fiorina is running for Senate

Carly Fiorina's announcement of her Senate run was bold in more ways than one:

Most obviously, she's now sporting a post-chemo steel gray cropped hairstyle instead of the light brown highlighted wig she had been using recently.

She also opted for a very closely fitted tone on tone gray suit. Big earrings were a good choice. I think she looks great. It will be interesting to see how her look develops along with her campaign.

Hillary Clinton on Sudan

I could write a lot about Hillary Clinton in this forum, and at some point in the future I probably will. Let's focus on today for now, when she spoke about a new strategy for relations with Sudan. Secretary Clinton, who is often criticized for wearing bright colors, wore brown. I wouldn't have imagined I would ever recommend this color for her, given her light hair color, but I really like this. The lapels of her jacket are the right width and the jacket has a high stance - also good for someone with her proportions.

The only item I would change is the necklace. It's too heavy looking and too short. It cuts off her neck in an unflattering way. I would have recommended something that would echo the V of the jacket lapels, like a pendant on a chain.

I like her hair this length too. She needs that little bit of length in the back to, um, flatter her jawline. The highlights are just a tad too stark in the front.
