Pastels can be powerful

Pastel colors don't work for everyone. We know that. But if pastels are in your color palette (have you booked that color analysis consultation yet?) they're a great choice for summer. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison shows us how it's done:

The Senator makes spearmint into a power color by wearing it in a very structured jacket. The prominent shoulders are a subtle but effective nod to the '80s fashion moment we're having this year. She stands out against her male colleagues in the background in just the right way.

  1. That is a nice looking outfit. I really like the blouse under it as well.

  2. No way. That blouse is too buttoned-up. Too severe.

  3. Somehow "prominent" and "subtle" seem oxymoronic to me. I think, as well, that this suit looks more like it's been in the senator's closet since the '80s, as opposed to being effective "nod" to the '80s. That said, color spearmint seems a brave and fun choice. Also think neckline and buttons on blouse are not quite right with the lapels/shoulders of jacket. My two cents for this newly discovered blog!

  4. I love your site and your analyses of what works and what doesn't for these women with positions of responsibility and who are so often in the spotlight. I also love that for the most part the clothes are good-looking and appropriate for women who are not tall, thin, or teen-aged.
